Magnus “The Rocket” Phleming threw warmup pitches in yesterday’s season opener for the Canal-City Zoroastors, making history as the first ectotherm to play professional ironball in ILG history. Skeptics have wondered for years if amphibians had the requisite elbow tissue to play League-level Ironball, but Magnus intends to change that conversation.
“I just want to go out there and play a good game” Magnus stated after the afternoon’s bout.
Aside from his unconventional blood temperature, there has also been a great deal of controversy about the use of his gills on the field.
“Some people want to discount me because I need to rest on a warm rock between innings, but at the end of the day it’s all about playing some good, clean ironball”.
The game ended uneventfully 41-29 in favor of long-time rivals the Fogtown Dragoons. “The Dragoons played a good game,” said Coach Chaw, “Everyone out there played their best, that’s what fans like to see.”
Coach Chaw still refuses to comment on the incident during the series finale that left 3 fans in the front row turned completely inside-out.
Next week’s matchup is against the Barnick Dirtbellies in a home game.
